Instructions are for size 14, changes for sizes 16 and 18 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS—Bear Brand Imported De Luxe Cashmere and Wool, 13 (14-15) skeins.
Bucilla Plastic Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 3. Bucilla Plastic Crochet Hook, Size 2; or
Bear Brand British 3-ply Fingering Yarn, 10 (11-12) balls.
Bucilla Plastic Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 1 and 2.
Bucilla Plastic Crochet Hook, Size 2.

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline buttoned 35 (37-39) ins.
Width of back at underarm 17 (18-19) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 12½ (13-13½) ins.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 21 rows = 2 inches

BACK—With size 1 needles, cast on 116 (124-132) sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 4 ins. Inc. row—Continuing ribbing, inc. 10 sts evenly spaced across row; 126 (134-142) sts.
Change to larger needles. Work stockinette st—p 1 row, k 1 row, increasing 1 st each side every 1½ ins. 5 times; 136 (144-152) sts. Work even until 9 ins. above ribbing.

Armholes—Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 8 (9-10) times; 104 (108-112) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7¼ (7½-7¾) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 7 (9-11) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 9 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 36 sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT—With size 1 needles, cast on 76 (80-84) sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing to within 8 sts of end, k last 8 sts.
Next row—K 8 for garter st front facing, work k 2, p 2 ribbing to end. Repeat these 2 rows for 4 ins.
Inc. row—Continuing ribbing, inc. 3 sts evenly spaced across ribbing; 79 (83-87) sts.
Change to larger needles. Continue 8 st front facing in garter st, working remaining sts in stockinette st, shaping underarm edge as for back; 84 (88-92) sts. Work even until same length as back to armholes.
Shape armhole as for back; 68 (70-72) sts. Work even until armhole measures 6 ins., end at front edge.

Neck Shaping—Bind off 20 sts at beg. of next row. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 14 times, shaping shoulder as for back, when armhole is same length.

RIGHT FRONT—With size 1 needles, cast on 76 (80-84) sts. K 8; work k 2, p 2 ribbing to end. Next row—Work k 2, p 2 to within 8 sts of end, k 8 for garter st front facing. Repeat these 2 rows for ¾ in., end at front edge.

Buttonholes—K 3, bind off 3 sts for buttonhole, k until 4 sts from bind-off, bind off 3 sts for buttonhole, finish row. On next row, cast on 3 sts over each buttonhole. Finish right front to correspond to left, repeating buttonholes every 2½ ins., including previous buttonholes, 7 times more and shaping at opposite sides. Last buttonhole will be about ½ in. below neck edge.

SLEEVES—With size 1 needles, cast on 60 sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 3 ins.
Inc. row—Continuing ribbing, inc. 4 (8-12) sts evenly spaced across row; 64 (68-72) sts.
Change to larger needles. Work stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every ¾ in. 18 times; 100 (104-108) sts. Work even until 15 ins. above ribbing. Bind off 8 (9-10) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 10 (11-12) times; every 4th row 6 times; every 2nd row 3 times. Bind off 3 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 28 sts.

POCKET—With larger needles, cast on 22 sts. P 7, k 1, p 6, k 1, p 7.
Row 2—right side—Inc. 1 st in first st, k 6, p 1, k 6, p 1, k 5, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1; 24 sts.
Row 3—Inc. 1 st in first st, p 7, k 1, p 6, k 1, p 6, inc. 1 st in next st, p 1; 26 sts.
Row 4—Inc. 1 st in first st, k 8, p 1, slip next 3 sts on hook, hold in front of work, k next 3 sts, k 3 sts from hook—a cable twist—, p 1, k 7, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1; 28 sts. Work even, repeating cable twist every 6th row, until 1 row above 4th cable twist.

Pocket Shaping—K 10, turn. Bind off 3 sts, p to end, turn. K 7, turn, bind off 3 sts, p to end, turn. K 4, turn, bind off. Place 8 sts of cable stripe on holder.
Shape right half of pocket to correspond to left. Take up 8 sts of cable stripe. Working from right side, inc. 1 st in first p st, k 6, p 1. Next row—K 1, p 6, k 2. Continue cable pat. until 3 rows above 3rd cable twist. Bind off. Sew p 1 edge of cable to shaped edge of half of pocket.
Cast on 9 sts. P 1, k 6, p 2. Work cable pat., having first cable twist on 5th row, until 3 rows above 3rd cable twist. Bind off.
Sew cast on edge in back of other cable and p 1 edge of cable along shaped edge of other half of pocket. Turn under 2 p sts on upper edges of pocket and sew to wrong side to form scalloped edge, as illustrated.
Work 1 row sc around lower and side edge of pocket.

COLLAR—With larger needles, cast on 104 (108-112) sts for neck edge.
Row 1—K 2, p 6, k 1, p to within 9 sts of end, k 1, p 6, k 2.
Row 2—P 2, k 6, p 1, k to within 9 sts of end, p 1, k 6, p 2. Repeat row 1.
Inc. row—right side—P 2, work cable twist on next 6 sts, p 1, k 2 (4-6), * inc. 1 st in next st, k 2; repeat from * 27 times, k to within 9 sts of end, p 1, work cable twist, p 2; 132 (136-140) sts. Work even with cable border on each side, repeating cable twist every 6th row until 1½ ins. from beg., end on wrong side.
Work first 9 sts, place on holder, bind off next 2 sts, finish row.
Next row—Work first 9 sts, place on holder, bind off next 2 sts, p to end. Work 2 more rows in stockinette st, binding off 2 sts at beg. of each row. Bind off.
Take up 9 sts of cable border and continue cable pat. until long enough to extend to center back of collar, end with 2nd row above cable twist. Break off leaving end for weaving. Place on holder. Work other half of cable border to cor­respond. Weave ends of border tog. Sew around edge of collar. Turn under and sew 2 p sts at cable edge, same as on pocket.

FINISHING—Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Sew pocket to left front as illustrated. Turn under and hem front facings. Finish buttonholes working through both thicknesses. Sew on collar with edges 4 sts from front edge. Steam.
