MATERIALS— Bear Brand Tricolaine, 22 (24) skeins.
Bucilla 14-inch Featherlite Alumi­num Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 2.
Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline 37½ (39½) ins.
Width of back at underarm 17 (18) ins.
Width of skirt at hipline 39 (41) ins.
At lower edge 48 (50) ins.
Length of skirt blocked 30 ins.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 12 rows = 1 inch

SKIRT

Cast on 192 (199) sts for lower edge of one half of skirt. Work stockinette st—p 1 row, k 1 row—for 6 ins., end with p row.
Lace Pattern StripeRow 1—right side—K 1, * k 5, k 2 tog., yo; repeat from *, end k 2.
Row 2—P 2, * yo, p 1, p 2 tog., p 4; repeat from *, end last repeat p 5.
Row 3—K 1, * k 3, k 2 tog., k 2, yo; repeat from *, end k 2.
Row 4—P 2, * yo, p 3, p 2 tog., p 2; repeat from *, end last repeat p 3.
Row 5—K 1, * k 1, k 2 tog., k 4, yo; repeat from *, end k 2.
Row 6—P 2, * p 5, yo, p 2 tog.; repeat from *, end p 1.
Row 7—* K 2 tog., k 1, yo, k 4; repeat from *, end last re­peat k 7.
Row 8—P 2, * p 2 tog., p 3, yo, p 2; repeat from *, end last repeat p 3.
Row 9—K 1, * k 3, yo, k 2, k 2 tog.; repeat from *, end k 2.
Row 10—P 2, * p 2 tog., p 1, yo, p 4; repeat from *, end last repeat p 5.
Repeat rows 1 to 5 inclusive. These 15 rows form stripe. P 1 row.
First dec. row—K 14 (15), * k 2 tog., k 25 (26); repeat from *, end k 2 tog., k 14; 185 (192) sts. Work even in stockinette st until 4¾ ins. above lace stripe, end with p row. Repeat 15 rows of pat. for 2nd lace stripe. P 1 row.
2nd dec. row—K 13 (14), * k 2 tog., k 24 (25); repeat from *, end k 2 tog., k 14; 178 (185) sts.
Continue in stockinette st until 2¾ ins. above 2nd lace stripe, end with p row.
3rd dec. row—K 13 (14), * k 2 tog., k 23 (24); repeat from *, end k 2 tog., k 13; 171 (178) sts. Work even until 4¾ ins. above 2nd lace stripe, end with p row. Repeat 15 rows of pat. for 3rd lace stripe.
Continue in stockinette st decreasing 7 sts every dec. row as before, having 1 st less between decs. and at alternate sides after each dec. row, working as follows:
Work 4th dec. row on first k row above 3rd lace stripe; 164 (171) sts.
Work even until 22 ins. from beg. or 8 ins. less than desired blocked length, end with p row.
Note: Always end with p row before a dec. row or a lace stripe.
5th dec. row—hipline—K 12 (13), * k 2 tog., k 21 (22); re­peat from *, end k 2 tog., k 12; 157 (164) sts.
Work dec. row every ¾ in. twice; 143 (150) sts.
At 4¾ ins. above 3rd lace stripe, work 4th lace stripe. On next k row, work 8th dec. row; 136 (143) sts.
Continue to dec. 7 sts every 1 in. twice; every ¾ in. once; 115 (122) sts. Work even until 29 ins. from beg. or 1 in. less than desired blocked length. Bind off.
Make 2nd half in same way.

FINISHING—Block stretching 1 in. in length, see page 39. Sew seams sewing in 1½ sts at each side to make lace pat. match. Work 2 rows sc on lower edge. Steam.

WAIST

BACK—Cast on 114 (121) sts. Work stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every ½ in. 4 times; 122 (129) sts. Work even until 2¾ ins. from beg., end with p row. Work 15 rows of lace pat. as on skirt. Working stockinette st, inc. 1 st each side every 4th row 7 times; 136 (143) sts. Work even until 2¾ ins. above lace stripe. Work 2nd lace stripe as before. Back should measure 8 ins. from beg.

Armholes—Bind off 4 sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 10 times; 108 (115) sts. Work even until 2¾ ins. above 2nd lace stripe, end with p row. Work 3rd lace stripe as before.
(For size 18 only, dec. 3 sts evenly spaced across first row above 3rd lace stripe; 112 sts.) Work even until armhole measures 7 (7¼) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 4 (6) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 4 sts at beg. of next 16 rows. Bind off remaining 36 sts.

FRONT—Cast on 116 (124) sts. P 1 row.
Inc. row—K, increasing 28 sts evenly spaced across row; 144 (152) sts.
Work same as back until 2¾ ins. from beg , end with p row; 152 (160) sts.
Begin lace stripe with stockinette st panel at center as follows: Work pat. as in row 1 for 66 sts, place marker; k 20 (28) sts, place marker; work pat. on remaining 66 sts. Continue pat. for 14 rows more, working 20 (28) sts between markers in stockinette st.
Continue as for back until 2¾ ins. above lace stripe; 166 (174) sts.
Work lace stripe as before on 73 sts at each side, working 20 (28) sts at center in stockinette st.

Armholes—Bind off 14 sts at beg. of next 2 rows for under­arm; 2 sts at beg. of next 6 rows; 126 (134) sts.

Front Opening and Neck Shaping—wrong side—P 63 (67), slip on holder for right side, p to end. Dec. 1 st at beg. of next row; repeat dec. at armhole edge every 2nd row 7 times; 55 (59) sts. Work even until 2¾ ins. above 2nd lace stripe. Work 3rd lace stripe on first 45 sts from armhole edge, working 10 (14) sts from center edge in stockinette st. (For size 18 only, dec. 2 sts evenly spaced on first p row after 3rd lace stripe; 57 sts.) Work 1 in. even, end at armhole edge. Next row—K to within 2 sts of end, slip, k and pass for round corner shaping. P 1 row. Continue to dec. at corner every row 5 times more; 49 (51) sts. Bind off 5 sts at beg. of next p row for neck. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 4 times; every 2nd row 4 times. Work even until armhole measures same length as back; shape shoulder as on back.
Beg. at opening work right side to correspond.

SLEEVES—Cast on 87 (94) sts. Work stockinette st even for 1 in., end with p row. Work lace stripe for 15 rows. P 1 row. Inc. 1 st each side of next row; repeat incs. every 4th row 5 (4) times; 99 (104) sts. Work even until 4½ ins. from beg. Bind off 8 sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 9 (10) times; every 4th row 8 times; every 2nd row 3 (4) times. Bind off 2 sts at beg. of next 6 rows; 3 sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 25 (26) sts.

FINISHING—Block and finish.
