REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: ½-ounce each of white and blue, 4-ply Knitting Worsted

NEEDLES: 1-pr. #4 single pointed

CUFF: Starting at the cuff and using the blue yarn, cast on 29 sts. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 5 rows. Beading row: * k 2 sts together, yarn over, repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over, k 1. Work in ribbing as before for 5 rows, increasing 8 sts evenly spaced apart on the last row of ribbing (33 sts). Now work in the pattern as follows:

ROW 1: (Using the white yarn) K 2, * slip 1 st as if to purl, k 3, repeat from * across row, ending with k 2.

ROW 2: Purl 2, * slip 1, p 3, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows once more.

ROW 5: (Using the blue yarn): Knit across all sts.

ROW 6: Knit across all sts. Repeat these 6 rows until the mitten measures 2½ inches above the ribbing, ending with row 4 of pattern. Break off white yarn, use blue for remainder of mitten. Next row: Knit across row, decreasing 8 sts evenly spaced across row. Knit across next row. 1st dec: K 1, * k 2 tog, k 2, repeat from * across row. Purl next row. 2nd dec: K 1, * k 2 tog, k 2, repeat from * across row. Purl next row. 3rd dec: K 1, * k 2 tog, k 1, repeat from * across row. Next row: Purl 2 sts together across row. Break yarn, leaving 10 inches. Thread a darning needle and draw through the remaining sts. Fasten tightly on wrong side. Sew up side of mitten. MAKE THE OTHER MITTEN THE SAME WAY. Trim with ribbon.
