REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 1-ounce of 3-ply Baby Yarn

NEEDLES: 1-pr. #4 single pointed, 1-pr. #3 single pointed

CUFF: Using the #4 needles cast on 40 sts. ROW 1: * Yarn over, slip 1 st as if to purl, knit 1; repeat from * across row. ROW 2: * Yarn over, slip 1 st as if to purl, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row, ending with k 2 tog. Repeat row 2 for pattern. Work in the pattern until the piece measures 1¾ inches. Next row: (Decrease): * p 1, k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Beading row: * k 2 tog, yarn over, repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over, k 2 sts. Change to the #3 needles and purl 1 row, knit 1 row until the mitten measures 2½ inches above the beading row. Decrease row: Knit 2 sts together across row. Purl across next row. Repeat last 2 rows once more. Break yarn leaving 10 inches. Thread a darning needle and draw through the sts. Fasten tightly on wrong side of work. Sew up side of mitten. Make the other mitten the same way. Embroider on back of mitten as in illustration.
