Jack Frost Sport Yarn

Main Color—5 2-oz. Balls; Contrasting Color—1 2-oz. Ball

BACK: With main color and No. 2 Needles cast on 99 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3½ in. K 1 row increasing to 123 sts. P 1 row, then work in pattern as given on chart A for 10 rows, always being sure to twist yarn when changing colors. Work even in stockinette st until piece measures 11½ in. from lower edge, then start working as given on chart B. When piece measures 13 in. from lower edge, following the chart, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 7 in. from underarm. Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows for shoulders. Change to No. 2 Needles and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work as given for back until 56 pattern rows have been made for yoke. Work over 37 sts; place on st-holder. Bind off next 23 sts for front of neck. On remaining 37 sts, continue in pattern as given on chart, decreasing 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times. Work even until piece measures 7 in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 8 sts every other row 4 times. Work other side to correspond.

FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles and main color, on right side of garment, pick up 79 sts from end to end of neck­band. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.

SLEEVES: With No. 2 Needles and main color, cast on 61 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3½ in. K 1 row, P 1 row, then work in pattern as given on chart C. Work in stockinette st increasing 1 st at each end on the next and every 8th row there­after to 87 sts. Work even until piece measures 16½ in. from lower edge, then work in pattern as given on chart D. When piece measures 18 in. from lower edge, following the chart, bind off 9 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 7 times, then every 4th row 4 times. Work 3 rows even, then bind off 2 sts at begin­ning of every row until 19 sts remain. Bind off remaining sts.

Sew shoulder and underarm seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.
