Main Color—5 2-oz. Balls; Contrasting Color—1 2-oz. Ball

BACK: With main color and No. 2 Needles cast on 99 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3½ in. Change to No. 4 Needles and P 1 row increasing to 120 sts. Work even until piece measures 12½ in. from lower edge. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times. Work even until piece measures 7 in. from under­arm. Bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows then 8 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows for shoulders. Change to No. 2 Needles increasing to 39 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work as given for back until piece measures 10 in. from lower edge, then work in pattern as given on chart being sure to twist yarn when changing colors, until piece measures 12½ in. from lower edge (22 pattern rows). Following the chart, bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times. Work even until piece measures 5½ in. from underarm (48 pattern rows from underarm). Work over 35 sts, place on st-holder. Bind off next 22 sts for front of neck. On remaining 35 sts, work in pat­tern decreasing 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times. Work even until piece measures 7 in. from underarm. Starting at shoul­der edge, bind off 7 sts every other row 2 times, then 8 sts every other row 2 times. Work other side to correspond.

FRONT NECKBAND: With main color and No. 2 Needles on right side of garment, pick up 79 sts from end to end of neck­band. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 7 rows. Bind off.

SLEEVES: With No. 2 Needles cast on 61 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3½ in. Change to No. 4 Needles and work even in stockinette st for 14 rows. Continuing stockinette st, decrease 1 st at each end of the next and every 8th row thereafter to 81 sts. Work even until piece measures 18 in. from lower edge. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 8 times, then every 4th row 4 times. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of every row until 19 sts remain. Bind off remaining sts.

Sew underarm and shoulder seams. Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.
