Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—6 1-oz. Balls

BACK: With No. 3 Needles cast on 121 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 10 rows, then work even in stockinette st until piece measures 6 in. from lower edge. Change to No. 2 Needles and work even until piece measures 12 in. from lower edge. Change to No. 3 Needles and work even until piece measures 13 in. from lower edge, then work in pattern until piece measures 17 in. from lower edge as follows: Row 1—K 1, * P 3, K 1, repeat from * across row. Row 2—* P 2, K 2, repeat from * across row ending P 1. Row 3—K 1, * P 1, K 3, repeat from * across row. Row 4— Purl. When pattern has been completed and piece measures 17 in. from lower edge, work in stockinette st binding off 7 sts at begin­ning of each of next 2 rows for underarm; decrease 1 st at each end every other row 7 times. Work even until piece measures 6½ in. from underarm. Bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 8 rows for shoulders. Change to No. 2 Needles and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows. Bind off.

FRONT: Work as given for back until piece measures 4½in. from underarm. Work over 34 sts; place on st-holder. Bind off next 25 sts for front of neck. On remaining 34 sts, work 2 rows even, then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row 6 times. Work even until piece measures 6½ in. from underarm. Starting at shoulder edge, bind off 7 sts every other row 4 times. Work other side to correspond.

FRONT NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles on right side of gar­ment, pick up 81 sts from end to end of neckband. Work in rib­bing of K 1, P 1, for 8 rows. Bind off. Sew shoulder and underarm seams.

SLEEVES: With No. 3 Needles cast on 77 sts. Work in pattern increasing 1 st at each end every 4th row to 85 sts. Working in stockinette st, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm, decrease 1 st at each end every other row 7 times, then every 4th row 2 times. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of every row until 21 sts remain. Bind off remaining sts.

Sew sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in place.
