MATERIALS
BERNAT Super Cashmere and Wool—7(8-8) balls
1 pair each straight knitting needles Nos. 1 and 3 (standard)
12 small silver buttons
1 yard 1 inch grosgrain ribbon

GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH: Multiple of 11 stitches plus 10.
Row 1: P 10, * K, P, K in next st (3 sts made from 1 st), P 10, repeat from * across row.
Row 2: K 10, * P 3, K 10, repeat from * across row.
Row 3: P 10, * K 3, P 10, repeat from * across row.
Rows 4 and 6: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 7: P10, * sl 1, K2 tog, psso, P 10, repeat from * across row.
Rows 8, 10, 12 and 14: K all sts.
Rows 9, 11 and 13: P all sts.
Row 15: P 5, * K, P, K in the next st (3 sts made from 1 st), P 10, repeat from * across row, ending P 4.
Row 16: K 4, * P 3, K 10, repeat from * across row, ending K 5.
Row 17: P 5, * K 3, P 10, repeat from * across row, ending P 4.
Rows 18 and 20: Repeat Row 16.
Row 19: Repeat Row 17.
Row 21: P 5, * sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, P 10, repeat from * across row, ending P 4.
Rows 22, 24, 26 and 28: K all sts.
Rows 23, 25 and 27: P all sts.
Repeat these 28 rows for pattern stitch.

NOTE: On Row 1 and Row 15 of pattern, you will have 2 additional sts for each pattern. These additional sts are carried until Row 7 or Row 21 when they are decreased. Be sure to consider this in counting your stitches.

BACK: Using No. 1 needles cast on 92(98-104) sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 1¼ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and K the next row, inc at even intervals to 98(109-109) sts. Work in pattern st, inc 1 st each end of needle every ¾ inch 9(6-9) times. Work even on 116(121-127) sts until piece measures 10½(11-11½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 7 sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 6 times. Work even on 90(95-101) sts until armholes measure 7½(7¾-8) inches. At the beg of each of the next 6(8-6) rows bind off 10(8-11) sts. Bind off the remaining sts.

LEFT FRONT: Using No. 1 needles, cast on 51(62-62) sts. K 8 sts (front border); put a marker on needle; P 1, K 1 in ribbing to end of row. Keeping 8 sts for front border in stockinette st and all other sts in ribbing, work even for 1¼ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and keeping 8 sts in
stock­inette st, work pattern st on remaining 43(54-54) sts. Inc 1 st at arm edge every ½(¾-½) inch 13(9-11) times. Work even on 64(71-73) sts until piece measures 10½(11-11½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 8(9-9) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 5(7-7) times. Work even on 51(55-57) sts until armhole measures 6(6¼-6½) inches. SHAPE NECK: Starting at arm edge work 34(38-40) sts; put remaining 17 sts on a holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 4(6-7) times. Work even on 30(32-33) sts until armhole measures 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 10(8-11) sts 3(4-3) times.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with left front being sure to reverse all shaping.

SLEEVES: Using No. 1 needles, cast on 76 sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for ¾(¾-1) inch. Change to No. 3 needles and on the next row work in pattern st inc 1 st each end of needle. Repeat this inc every ½ inch 4(7-8) times more. Work even on 86(92-94) sts until piece measures 5(5-5½) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 7(8-8) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row for 4¼(4½-4¾) inches. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 3 sts. Bind off the remaining sts.

FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. NECKBAND: Using No. 1 needles, with right side facing you pick up 112(114-116) sts around neck, including sts from holders. Work in stockinette st for ¾ inch. K the next 2 rows to form hemline. Continue in stockinette st for ¾ inch more. Bind off loosely. Hem neckband. Block to size. Face fronts with grosgrain ribbon. Close front with snap fasteners. Sew buttons on right front as shown in sketch.
