MATERIALS
BERNAT Fleurette—22(23-24) skeins Grey
BERNAT Tinsel—1 tube Gold
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 2 (standard)
1 24 inch circular needle No. 2
1 steel crochet hook No. 4
½ yd 1½ inch grosgrain ribbon
1 yd ½ inch elastic
1 yd 1 inch grosgrain ribbon
1 buckle
Snap fasteners

GAUGE:
7 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch on skirt and sleeves
7½ sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch on back and front blouse

SKIRT

NOTE: Any changes in length of skirt are made before first dec round.

Using circular needle, cast on 480(504-520) sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Round 1: * K 118(124-128) sts, P 2, repeat from * to end of round. Repeat this round until piece measures 2 inches. FIRST DEC ROUND: * K 18(20-21) sts, K 2 tog, K 38(39-40) sts, K 2 tog, K 38(39-40) sts, K 2 tog, K 18(20-21) sts, P 2, repeat from * to end of round—12 sts dec. Work even for 2 inches. SECOND DEC ROUND: * K 18(20-21) sts, K 2 tog, K 37(38-39) sts, K 2 tog, K 37(38-39) sts, K 2 tog, K 17(19-20). sts, P 2, repeat from * to end of round—12 sts dec. Work even for 2 inches. THIRD DEC ROUND: * K 17(19-20) sts, K 2 tog, K 36(37-38) sts, K 2 tog, K 36(37-38) sts, K 2 tog, K 17(19-20) sts, P 2, repeat from * to end of round —12 sts dec. Work even for 2 inches. FOURTH DEC ROUND: * K 17(19-20) sts, K 2 tog, K 35(36-37) sts, K 2 tog, K 35(36-37) sts, K 2 tog, K 16(18-19) sts, P 2, repeat from * to end of round—12 sts dec. Continue in this manner, dec 12 sts every 2 inches until piece measures 13(13-15) inches—408(432-436) sts. On the next round, dec 12 sts in same manner as before and continue to dec 12 sts in this manner every 1 inch until piece measures 31(32-33) inches. Bind off remaining 192(204-220) sts.

BLOUSE

PATTERN STITCH
Row 1: * K 3, P 2, K 3, P 14(15-16) sts, repeat from * ending K 3, P 2, K 3.
Row 2: * P 3, K 2, P 3, K 14(15-16) sts, repeat from * ending P 3, K 2, P 3.
Row 3: Repeat Row 1.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: * Slip next 5 sts onto d p needle and hold in back of work, K 3, sl the P 2 sts from holder onto left hand needle and P these 2 sts, K 3 sts from holder(cable twist), * P 14(15-16) sts, repeat from * ending cable twist on last 8 sts.
Rows 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16: Repeat Row 2.
Rows 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15: Repeat Row 1.
Repeat these 16 rows for pattern stitch.

BACK: Using straight needles, cast on 100(108-116) sts. K 24(27-30) sts, put a marker on needle; K 52(54-56) sts, put a marker on needle; K remaining 24(27-30) sts. Now working in pattern st on sts between markers and keeping sts outside markers in stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of needle every ¾ inch 10 times. Work even on 120(128-136) sts until piece measures 8(8-8½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 6(7-9) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 4(5-5) times, ending with an even row. BACK OPENING: Work 56(58-60) sts; put remaining 44(46-48) sts on a holder. RIGHT BACK: Work even on 56(58-60) sts until armhole measures approximately 1¾ inches, ending with Row 2. On the next row P 2, put a marker on needle; work in pattern st to last 2 sts, put a marker on needle; P remaining 2 sts. Work in pattern st on sts between markers and keep 2 sts each end of work in stockinette st until armhole measures 7¼(7½-7¾) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 11(7-9) sts 3(5-4) times. Bind off re­maining 23(23-24) sts. RIGHT BACK: Slip sts from holder onto needle. Join a ball of yarn and cast on 12 sts at center edge. Work even on 56(58-60) sts until armhole measures approximately 1½ inches, ending with Row 2. On the next row, P 24(25-26) sts, put a marker on needle; K 3, P 2, K 3, P 14(15-16) sts, K 3, P 2, K 3, put a marker on needle; P remaining 2 sts. Work in pattern st on sts between markers and keep sts outside of markers in stockinette st until armhole measures 7¼(7½- 7¾) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 11(7-9) sts 3(5-4) times. Bind off remaining 23(23-24) sts.

FRONT: Using straight needles, cast on 108(116-124) sts. K 28(31-34) sts, put a marker on needle; K 52(54-56) sts, put a marker on needle; K remaining 28(31-34) sts. Now work in pattern st on sts between markers and keep sts out­side of markers in stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of needle every ¾ inch 10 times. Work even on 128(136-144) sts until piece measures 8(8-8½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 9(10-11) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 5(6-7) times. Work even on 100(104-108) sts until armholes measure approximately 1¾ inches, ending with Row 2. On the next row P 2, put a marker on needle; work in pattern st to last 2 sts, put a marker on needle; P 2. Work in pattern st between markers and keep sts outside mark­ers in stockinette st until armholes measure 6(6¼-6½) inches. SHAPE NECK: Work 37(39-40) sts; join another ball of yarn and bind off center 26(26-28) sts; work remain­ing 37(39-40) sts. Working on both sides at once, dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 4 times. Work even on 33(35-36) sts of each side until armholes measure 7¼(7½-7¾) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At each arm edge bind off 11(7-9) sts 3(5-4) times.

SLEEVES: Using straight needles, cast on 60(62-64) sts. Row 1: P 26(27-28) sts, K 3, P 2, K 3, P 26(27-28) sts. Row 2: K 26(27-28) sts, P 3, K 2, P 3, K 26(27-28) sts. Row 3: P 26(27-28) sts, cable twist on next 8 sts, P 26(27- 28) sts. Continue in this manner, forming a cable twist on the center 8 sts every 16th row until piece measures 2 inches. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every ¾ inch until piece measures 7 inches. Discontinue cable pattern and work in stockinette st on all sts, continu­ing to inc 1 st each end of needle every ¾ inch until there are 86(92-96) sts. Work even until piece measures 17½(18-18) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 9(11-11) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row for 4¼(4½-4¾) inches. At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 3 sts. Bind off remaining sts.

BELT: Using straight needles, cast on 10 sts. Row 1: P 2, * K 2, P 2, repeat from * to end of row. Row 2: K 2, * P 2, K 2, repeat from * to end of row. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 31(32-33) inches. Bind off.

FINISHING: Block each piece. Using a double strand of Gold, outline each cable as shown in photograph. Using P side as right side of skirt, work 2 rows s c around bottom and top of skirt. Work a beading on inside top of skirt. Run elastic, cut to waist measurement, through beading, and sew ends tog. Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Tack back underlap in place. Work 2 rows s c around sleeve, neck and back opening edges. Face back opening with 1½ inch grosgrain ribbon. Close back opening with snap fasteners. Line belt with 1 inch grosgrain ribbon. Using yarn, buttonhole st over buckle and sew to one end of belt. Turn down other end to form a point. Sew in shoulder pads. Re-block.
