MATERIAL:

2 skeins Sock yarn 3 ply (1 oz. skein)

1 set sock needles each No. 1 and No. 2

1 card Nylon for heel and toe reinforcement

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:

1st round: * K the 2nd, 3rd and 4th st. from the back of st. (don't let sts. slip off left hand needle). K the 1st st. from the front and let the 4 sts. slip off the needle tog., K 4, repeat from * across round.

2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds: K all around.

5th round: * K 4, K the 2nd, 3rd and 4th st. from the back of st. (don't let sts. slip off left hand needle).

K the 1st st. from the front and let the 4 sts. slip off the needle tog., repeat from * across round.

3th, 7th and 8th rounds: K all around.

Repeat these 8 rounds for pattern.

Cast on 68 sts. with No. 1 needles, join and work in ribbing K 1, P 1 for 3 inch. Incr. 4 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 2 needles and pattern. Work even until sock measures 7 inch., end with 1st round. Now divide the sts. as follows: for heel slip on 1 needle 36 sts. and divide rem. 36 sts. evenly on the 2 instep needles. Attach Nylon and starting on right side K across heel needle only, decr. 4 sts. across row. P back. 1st row: * slip 1, K 1, repeat from * all across row, end K 1. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows for 23 rows ending with a P row. Turn heel on right side: slip 1, K 17, K 2 tog., K 1, turn, slip 1, P 4, P 2 tog., P 1, turn, slip 1, K 5, K 2 tog., K 1, turn, slip 1, P 6, P 2 tog., P 1, turn, slip 1, K 7, K 2 tog., K 1, turn. Continue this way always working 1 more st. on each row until 18 sts. are left on needle. Cut off Nylon. K across heel needle. With another needle pick up and K 13 sts. alongside of heel. (1st needle). Work across all instep sts. in pattern. With another needle, pick up and K 13 sts. along other side of heel and K on to same needle 9 sts. of heel needle (3rd needle). Slip rem. 9 sts. of heel needle on to 1st needle, ending at center of sole. Decr. for instep as follows: 1st round: K around, keeping instep sts. in pattern. 2nd round: on 1st needle K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. On 2nd needle work in pattern. On 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 64 sts. left in round (discontinue pattern on instep needle). Work even until sock measures from back of heel 8 inch. for size 10; 8 ½ inch. for size 10 ½; 9 inch. for size 11, or 2 inch. less than desired length when finished. Start to decrease for toe: Slip 2 sts. from each end of instep needle to end of 1st needle and beg. of 3rd needle. Attach Nylon. 1st round: K around. 2nd round: K to within 3 sts. of 1st needle, K 2 tog., K 1. On 2nd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K St., K to within 3 sts., K 2 tog., K 1. On 3rd needle K 1, slip 1, K 1 and p.s.s.o. the K st. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 24 sts. left. Weave sts. tog.
