MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 4(4-4-5) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 16(18-20-22) ozs

Knitting Needles: 1 pair "Boye" Size 8, 1 "Boye" cable needle, 1 "Boye" steel crochet hook Size 1 and 1 "Hiawatha" blunt end tapestry needle

Gauge: Ribbing Pattern - 6 sts to 1 inch; 6 rows to 1 inch

CABLE PATTERN FOR RAGLAN BANDS - 18 sts. Row 1 - Right side: P 2, K the 2nd st through back, then K the first st for twist, P 1, sl next 4 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K next 4 sts, then K the 4 sts from cable needle for cable twist, P 1, twist next 2 sts, P 2. Row 2: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 8, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 3: P 2, K 2, P 1, K 8, P 1, K 2, P 2. Row 4: Same as Row 2. Row 5: P 2, twist 2, P 1, K 8, P 1, twist 2, P 2. Row 6: Same as Row 2. Row 7: Same as Row 3. Row 8: Same as Row 2. Repeat these 8 rows for pat.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 14 sts for front border and facing. Work in St St for 2¼ inches, ending with a P row, cast on 41(43-45-47) sts - 55(57-59-61) sts on needle. Work in ribbing as follows. Row 1 - Right side: P 1, K 1 to last 14 sts, K 14. Row 2: P 14, then K 1, P 1 across row. Repeat these 2 rows until work measures 2¼ inches from cast-on sts. Raglan Armhole: Row 1 - Right side: K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, work to end of row. Row 2: Work in pat to last 2 sts, P 2. Row 3: K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, work to end of row. Re­peat Rows 2 and 3 until 21(22-23-24) sts rem. Repeat Rows 2 and 1 twice. Bind off rem'ing 17(18-19-20) sts. Place markers for 6 buttons at front edge, having first marker ¾ inch above lower edge and 6th marker ¾ inch below neck.

LEFT FRONT BAND: Cast on 5 sts, leaving about 12 inches of yarn for casting on additional sts. Row 1 - Right side: P 1, K 2, P 2. Row 2: K 2, P 2, K 1, cast on 2 sts with working yarn tog with left-over strand. Row 3: K 2, P 1, K 2, P 2. Row 4: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 2, cast on 2 sts. Row 5: K 4, P 1, K the 2nd st through back, then K first st for twist, P 2. Row 6: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 4, cast on 2 sts. Row 7: K 6, P 1, K 2, P 2. Row 8: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 6, cast on 2 sts. Row 9: K 8, P 1, twist 2, P 2. Row 10: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 8, cast on 2 sts. Row 11: K 1, P 1, K 8, P 1, K 2, P 2. Row 12: K 2, P 2, K 1, P 8, K 1, P 1, cast on 3 sts - 18 sts on needle. Continue pat from Row 1 of cable band. When band measures same as raglan armhole, bind off as follows: Row 1 - Wrong side: Sl 1, K 1, psso, P 2 tog, psso, K 1, psso, P 2 tog twice, P 4, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 2: P 2, K 2, P 1, K 6, P 1. Row 3: Sl 1, P 1, psso, P 1, psso, P 2 tog twice, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 4: P 2, twist 2, P 1, K 3. Row 5: Sl 1, P 1, psso, P 1, psso, K 1, P 2 tog, K 2. Row 6: P 2, K 1, P 1, K 1. Bind off rem'ing 5 sts.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, having decs, front border and facing at opposite sides and working buttonholes opposite markers as fol­lows: Right side, K 3, bind off next 2 sts, K 4, bind off next 2 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 2 sts over the bound-off sts. Raglan Armhole starts as fol­lows : Row 1 - Right side: Work to last 4 sts, K 3 tog, K 1. Row 2: P 2, work to end of row. Row 3: Work to last 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until 21(22-23-24) sts rem. Repeat Rows 2 and 1 twice. Bind off rem'ing 17(18-19-20) sts.

RIGHT FRONT BAND: Cast on 5 sts. Row 1 - Wrong side: K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 2: P 2, K 2, P 1, cast on 2 sts. Row 3: P 2, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 4: P 2, twist 2, P 1, K 2, cast on 2 sts. Row 5: P 4, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 6: P 2, K 2, P 1, K 4, cast on 2 sts. Row 7: P 6, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 8: P 2, twist 2, P 1, K 6, cast on 2 sts. Row 9: P 8, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 10: P 2, K 2, P 1, K 8, cast on 2 sts. Row 11: P 1, K 1, P 8, K 1, P 2, K 2. Row 12: P 2, twist 2, P 1, cable twist, P 1, K 1, cast on 3 sts - 18 sts on needle. Continue pat from Row 2 of cable band. When band measures same as left front band, shape neck edge to correspond.

BACK: Cast on 83(87-91-95) sts. Work in ribbing as follows: Row 1 - Right side: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for pat. Work until back measures 2¼ inches. Raglan Armholes: Row 1 - Right side: K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, work in pat to last 4 sts, K 3 tog, K 1. Row 2: P 2, work in pat across to last 2 sts, P 2. Row 3: K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, work across to last 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1. Repeat last 2 rows 23(24- 25-26) times more - 31(33-35-37) sts on needle. Re­peat Row 2 once, then Rows 1 and 2 twice, then Row 1. Dec every row as follows: P 1, P 2 tog, work across to last 3 sts, P 2 tog through back of loops, P 1. Next row repeat Row 1. Repeat these last 2 rows until 5 sts rem. K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 1. Next row P 3 tog. Bind off last st.

CABLE BANDS FOR BACK: For left side work same as right front band until edges measure same as long edge of left front band. Back of Neck: Sl 1, K 1, psso, P 2 tog, psso, K 1, psso, P 2 tog 4 times, K 1, P 2 tog, K 2. Next row P 2, K 1, P 1, K 5. Bind off. Work right side to correspond, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES: Starting with the band cast on 14 sts. Row 1 - Right side: P 2, K 4, P 2, K 4, P 2. Row 2: K 2, P 4, K 2, P 4, K 2. Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2. Row 5: P 2, sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K next 2 sts, then K the 2 sts from cable needle for cable twist, P 2, cable twist on next 4 sts, P 2. Row 6: Same as Row 2. Repeat these 6 rows for pat. When band measures 8½(8½-9-9) inches, bind off, do not break yarn. Pick up and K 59(61-63-65) sts across long side of band. Row 1 - Wrong side: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row. Continue to work in ribbing, inc'ing 1 st each side every 6th row 8(8-4-4) times, then on Sizes 14 and 16 only inc 1 st each side every 8th row 4 times, being careful to keep pat even - 75(77-79-81) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 13(13-13½-13½) inches. Raglan Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then re­peat Rows 2 and 3 of raglan armhole on back until 19 sts rem. Dec 1 st each side every row as before until 5 sts rem. Next row K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 1. Bind off rem'ing 3 sts.

COLLAR: Cast on 83(83-85-85) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 4¼ inches. Bind off in ribbing.

WAISTBAND: Work same as sleeve band for 28(29- 30-31) inches. Bind off.

BUTTONS: Leaving about 5 inches of yarn for sew­ing button to garment, ch 2, work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in first sc. Break yarn, leaving about 27-inch end of yarn. With tapestry needle draw yarn through to wrong side, then overcast over ring and into back loop of sc, about 3 sts in each sc to cover button ring.

Block pieces. Be sure that the edges of bands measure same as corresponding raglan edges of fronts and sleeves. Sew seams with back st or crochet with sl st. Sew bands tog for 1½ inches at center back. Sew facings in place, working around buttonholes. Sew bound-off edge of collar in place, starting and ending 1 inch from front edges. Sew waistband in place. Crochet 1 row of sc around front edges, side edges of collar, across lower edge and sleeve edges.
