MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 20(22-23) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 18(19-20) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 10 and 11 and 1 "Boye" crochet hook "H"(Size 6)

Gauge: Pattern Stitch on Size 11 needles - 11 sts to 3 inches; 5 rows to 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH: Row 1 - Right side: K 1, * sl next st as if to K, K 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: P each st in usual way. Repeat these 2 rows for pat.

BACK: With Size 11 needles cast on 77(85-89) sts. P 1 row. Work in pat until back measures 21(21-21½) inches or desired length from start. Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 2(3-3) times, then every 4th row 2(3-3) times - 61(65-69) sts on needle. Work until armholes measures 4 inches straight above bound-off sts, ending with a P row. Next row work 12 sts, place marker on needle, work next 38(42-46) sts, place another marker on needle, work 11 sts. Darts: Slipping markers, P 2 tog twice after the first marker and twice before the 2nd marker. Work 3 inches, then dec at markers once more - 53(57-61) sts on needle. Work until armholes measure 9½(10-10½) inches straight above bound-off sts. Shoulders: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 8(4-2) rows. On Sizes 14 to 16 and 18 to 20 only bind off 5 sts at beg of next 4(6) rows. All Sizes bind off rem'ing 21(21-23) sts for back of neck.

POCKET LININGS - Make 2: With Size 10 needles cast on 25 sts. Work in St St for 7 inches, ending with a K row. Sl sts onto st holder.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 11 needles cast on 45(49-51) sts. P 1 row. Work in pat until front meas­ures 7¾(7¾-8¼) inches from start, ending on wrong side of work. Pocket: Starting at side edge, work 4(6-8) sts, bind off next 23 sts, work to end of row. Next row P to 1 st before pocket opening, P 1 st of front tog with 1 st of pocket, P next 23 sts of pocket, P last st of pocket tog with next st of front, P to end of row. Work until front measures ½ inch longer than back to armhole. Armhole, Neck and Shoulder: Bind off 5 sts at side edge for armhole, then bind off 2 sts at same edge 1(2-2) times. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times - 35(37-39) sts on needle. Work until armhole measures 3 inches straight above first bound-off sts, ending with a P row. Next row work 12 sts, place marker on needle, work to end of row. Dart: Slipping marker, P 2 tog twice before marker. Dec at dart every 2 inches 3 times more AND AT THE SAME TIME when armhole measures 6(6½-6½) inches above bound-off sts, dec 1 st at front edge every row 4(4-5) times, then every other row 7 times AND AT THE SAME TIME when armhole measures same as on back, bind off 4 sts at armhole edge 4(2-1) times, then on Sizes 14 to 16 and 18 to 20 only bind off 5 sts at same edge 2(3) times. All Sizes: Place markers for 4 buttons on front edge, having first marker 7 inches above lower edge and 4th marker ½ inch below first dec at neck.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing the shaping and working buttonholes op­posite markers as follows: Starting at front edge, work 4 sts, bind off next 5 sts, work to end of row. Next row, cast on 5 sts over bound-off sts. When armhole measures 3 inches, place marker for dart 11 sts from side edge, then shape dart by P'ing 2 sts tog twice after marker.

SLEEVES: With Size 11 needles cast on 45(47-49) sts. P 1 row. Work in pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 3 inches twice, every 2 inches 4 times, working added sts in pat - 57(59-61) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 15 inches or desired length from start. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row until 23 sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem'ing 9 sts.

CUFFS: With Size 11 needles cast on 47(49-51) sts. P 1 row, then work in pat for 4 inches. Bind off.

COLLAR: With Size 11 needles cast on 63(63-67) sts for outer edge. P 1 row, then work in pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every row 11 times - 85(85-89) sts on needle. P 1 row. Next row work buttonhole: Work 6 sts, bind off next 5 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 5 sts over bound-off sts. Change to Size 10 needles, dec 1 st each side every row 12 times - 61(61-65) sts on needle. Bind off.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in place. Sew sleeve and underarm seams, easing in extra length on fronts over bust. Work 1 row of sl st on wrong side of lower edge. Break yarn. On wrong side of work, work 1 long sc in each sl st. Turn up sc row for hem, sew on wrong side. Face front and neck edges with 2-inch grosgrain ribbon, turning in 1 st on front edges and work around buttonholes. Line collar with matching fabric and sew in place with bound-off edge at neck. Make small button loop at right neck edge and sew a small button under collar. Sew cuffs in place. Sew pocket linings in place on wrong side. Face upper edge of pockets with grosgrain ribbon.
