MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 15(16-18- 19) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 14(14-16-18) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 8 and 10½

Gauge: Stockinette Stitch on Size 10½ needles - 3½ sts to 1 inch; 5 rows to 1 inch

BACK: With Size 10½ needles cast on 54(58-62-66) sts. Starting with a P row work in St St for 4 rows, then K next P row for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st each side - 56(60-64-68) sts on needle. Continue in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 8th row 5 times - 66(70-74-78) sts on needle. Work until back measures 10½(11-11-11½) inches or desired length from turn of hem to underarm. Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row twice - 56(60-64-68) sts on needle. Work until armholes measure 8(8-8½-8½) inches straight above bound-off sts at underarm. Shoulders: Bind off 7(7-8-8) sts at beg of next 4(2-4-2) rows, then on Sizes 16 and 20 only bind off 8(9) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem'ing 28(30-32-34) sts for back of neck.

POCKET FLAPS - Make 2: With Size 10½ needles cast on 21 sts. Work in ribbing as follows: Row 1 - Wrong side: P 3, * K 3, P 3, repeat from * across. Row 2: K 3, * P 3, K 3, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows twice more, then work Row 1 once more. Sl sts onto st holder.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 10½ needles cast on 26(28-30-32) sts. Starting with a P row work in St St for 4 rows, then K next P row for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st in last st. K next row, casting on 12 sts at end of row for front border and facing - 39(41-43-45) sts on needle. Continue to work in St St as follows: Row 1: P. Row 2: K to last 7 sts, sl 1, K 6. Repeat these 2 rows until front measures 2¼ inches from turn of hem, ending on right side of work. Next row P 16, bind off next 21 sts, P to end of row. Next row work to opening, K across 1 pocket flap, K to end of row. When work measures 3 inches from turn of hem, inc 1 st at side edge, then inc 1 st at same edge every 6th row 4 times more - 44(46-48-50) sts on needle. Work until front measures same as back to underarm. Armhole: Bind off 4 sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4 times - 36(38-40-42) sts on needle. Work until front edge measures 16½(16¾-17½-18) inches from turn of hem. Neck: Bind off 16(17-18-19) sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every row 3 times, dec 1 st every other row 3 times more. Work until armhole measures same as on back. Shoulder: Bind off 7(7-8-8) sts at armhole edge every other row 2(1-2-1) times, then on Sizes 16 and 20 only bind off 8(9) sts at same edge once. Place markers for 4 buttons, having first marker 1½ inches above lower edge and 4th marker 1½ inches below neck - 5th button will be on collar.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, working double buttonholes opposite markers as fol­lows: On right side K 1, bind off next 3 sts, K 2, sl 1, K 2, bind off next 3 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 3 sts over each set of bound-off sts.

SLEEVES: With Size 10½ needles cast on 34(36-38- 40) sts. Starting with a P row work in St St for 4 rows, then K next P row for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st each side - 36(38-40-42) sts on needle. Continue to work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 10th row 7 times - 50(52-54-56) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 17(17½-17½-18) inches or desired length from turn of hem to underarm. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 13(13-14-15) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, bind off rem'ing sts.

COLLAR: With Size 8 needles cast on 147(147-153- 153) sts. Work in ribbing as follows: Row 1 - Wrong side: P 3, * K 3, P 3, repeat from * across. Row 2: K 3, * P 3, K 3, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows until collar measures 2¾ inches from start. Work 1 more buttonhole as follows: Right side, K 3, bind off next 3 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 3 sts over the bound-off sts. Work until collar measures 3 inches from start, ending with Row 2. First Dec Row - Wrong side: * P 3, K 2 tog, K 1, P 3, K 3, repeat from * across, ending P 3 - 135(135-140-140) sts on needle. Next row: * K 3, P 3, K 3, P 2, repeat from * across, ending K 3. Continue in established ribbing until collar measures 5½ inches from start, ending on wrong side. 2nd Dec Row: * P 3, K 2, P 3, K 2 tog, K 1, repeat from * to last 3(3-8-8) sts, work to end of row - 123(123-128-128) sts on needle. Next row: K 3, * P 2, K 3, repeat from * across. Work in estab­lished ribbing until collar measures 8 inches from start, ending on right side. 3rd Dec Row: * K 3, P 2, K 2 tog, K 1, P 2, repeat from * to last 3(3-8-8) sts, work to end of row - 111(111-116-116) sts on needle. Work 4 more rows, then bind off in ribbing.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in place, then sew underarm and sleeve seams. Turn up hems and sew. Turn under front facings and sew, working around buttonholes. Sew bound-off edge of collar to neck edge, starting at right front edge and ending 2½ inches from left front edge, leaving the 2½ inches from collar for overlap. Sew one half of snap fast­ener to end of collar and the other half to right front at neck edge under collar about 2 inches from front edge. Sew pocket flaps in place.
