Directions are for all Sizes 10 to 18

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Featherweight Knitting Worsted (2 oz skein) - Main Color (MC) - 8 skeins and 1 skein each of Colors 1 and 2 for tassels

Knitting Needles: 1 pair "Boye" Size 5 - 14 inch

Gauge: 6 sts to 1 inch; 8 rows to 1 inch

OVERSKIRT - #32A

RIGHT HALF OF SKIRT: Cast on 180 sts. Row 1 - Right side: K 4, sl 1 as if to P, K across row. Row 2: P. Working the sl st throughout skirt, work in St St until skirt measures 4 inches from start, ending with a P row. Eyelet Row for Tassels: K 4, sl 1, K 5, * yo, K 2 tog, K 8, repeat from * across row. Next row P all sts - 180 sts on needle. Continue in St St until skirt measures 26 inches or desired length, bind off.

LEFT HALF OF SKIRT: Work to correspond to Right Half, working sl st as follows: K to last 5 sts, sl 1 as if to P, K 4. Eyelet Row: On wrong side of work P 10, * yo, P 2 tog, P 8, repeat from * across.

WAISTBAND: Cast on 21 sts. Work in St St for 1 inch more than waistline measurement. Work point as follows: Row 1 - Right side: * K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4, K 2 tog, K 2, repeat from * once more, ending K 1 instead of K 2. Row 2 and all even Rows: P. Row 3: * K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2, K 2 tog, K 2, repeat from * once, ending K 1. Row 5: * K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2 tog, K 2, repeat from * once, ending K 1. Row 7: * K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2, repeat from * once, ending K 1. Row 9: K 2 tog, K 1, K 2 tog. Row 10: P 3 tog. Bind off last st.

Sew back seam, turn in front facing and sew to wrong side.

POCKETS - Make 2: Cast on 24 sts. Work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every other row 6 times - 36 sts on needle. Work until pocket measures 6 inches from start. K next P row for turn of facing. Continue to work in St St for 1 more inch, bind off.

Turn under facings on pockets and sew to wrong side. With right sides tog overcast point of waistband, then turn right side out and sew waistband to top of skirt, gathering in to size. Sew hooks and eyes to waistband.

On wrong side of work, work 1 row of sc across lower edge of skirt. Sew pockets to skirt as illustrated.

TASSELS: Wind yarn around a 6-inch cardboard 15 times. Tie firmly at one end, cut other end and wind yarn several times around tassel near the top. Fasten 1 tassel to each eyelet alternating colors. Trim the ends evenly.

DIRNDL - #32B

BACK: Cast on 180 sts. Work in St St for 7 rows, K next P row for turn of hem. Continue to work in St St until skirt measures 19 inches for 26-inch skirt, for longer or shorter skirt make adjustments here, ending with a K row. Cast on 9 sts for underlap. Work until underlap measures 7 inches. Bind off.

FRONT: Work same as Back until skirt measures 19 inches, ending with a P row. Next row work 5 sts in K 1, P 1 ribbing, K to end of row. Continuing the 5 sts in ribbing, work until front measures same as back. Bind off.

Work waistband and pockets same as on overskirt.

Sew side seams, leaving open 7 inches on left side. Turn under half of underlap and sew in place. Gather skirt at waistline to size.

If desired make shorter, thicker tassels than on overskirt and cover pockets below hem.
