MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 4(4-5-5) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 16(18-20-22) ozs

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 6 and 8, 1 "Boye" cable needle and 1 "Boye" steel crochet hook Size 1

Gauge: Pattern Stitch on Size 8 needles - 4½ sts to 1 inch; 6 rows to 1 inch

BACK: With Size 8 needles cast on 71(75-79-83) sts. Work in St St for 5 rows, then K next P row for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st each side - 73(77-81-85) sts on needle. Work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: P 1(3-5-1), * K 1, P 5 *, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, K 6, P 5, then repeat from * to * 5 times, K 6, P 5, then repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, K 1, then P 1(3-5-1). Row 2: K 1(3-5-1), * P 1, K 5 *, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, P 6, K 5, repeat from * to * 5 times, P 6, K 5, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, P 1, then K 1(3-5-1). Row 3: Same as Row 1, twisting cables on each K 6 panel as follows: Sl first 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K next 3 sts, then K the 3 sts from cable needle. Row 4: Same as Row 2. Rows 5 and 6: Repeat Rows 1 and 2. Repeat these 6 rows for pat. Work until back measures 12½(13-13-13½) inches from turn of hem. Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row twice - 63(67-71-75) sts on needle. Work until armholes meas­ure 7½(7½-8-8) inches straight above bound-off sts at underarm. Shoulders: Bind off 6(7-7-8) sts at beg of next 4(6-4-6) rows, then on Sizes 10 and 14 only, bind off 7(8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem'ing 25(25-27-27) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 8 needles cast on 35(37-39-41) sts. Work in St St for 5 rows, casting on 8 sts on last row for front border, then K next P row for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st in last st - 44(46-48-50) sts on needle. Work in pat as follows: Row 1: P 1(3-5-1), * K 1, P 5 * repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, K 6, P 5, repeat from * to * twice, K 6, P 2. Row 2: K 2, P 6, K 5, * P 1, K 5 *, repeat from * to * once, P 6, K 5, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, P 1, then K 1(3-5-1). Row 3: Same as Row 1, twisting cables on each K 6 panel as before. Continue in pat until work measures same as back to underarm. Armhole: Bind off 3 sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row twice - 39(41-43-45) sts on needle. Work until front measures 18¼(18½-19-19¼) inches from turn of hem. Neck: Sl 10 sts at front edge onto st holder, then bind off 2 sts at same edge every other row twice, dec 1 st at same edge every row 4 times, then every other row 2(2-3-3) times. Work until armhole measures same as on back. Shoulder: Bind off 6(7-7-8) sts at armhole edge every other row 2(3-2-3) times, then on Sizes 10 and 14 only bind off 7(8) sts at same edge once. Place markers for 7 buttons on front border, having first marker in center of first cable and 7th marker in center of last cable below neck.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, with decs and front borders at opposite sides, start­ing pat above hem as follows: Row 1 - Right side: P 2, K 6, P 5, * K 1, P 5 *, repeat from * to * once, K 6, P 5, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, then K 1, P 1(3-5-1). Row 2: K 1(3-5-1), * P 1, K 5 *, repeat from * to * 1(1-1-2) times, P 6, K 5, repeat from * to * twice, P 6, K 2. Continue in pat, working buttonholes opposite markers as follows: On wrong side of work, work in pat to last 6 sts, bind off next 2 sts, work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts over bound-off sts.

SLEEVES: With Size 6 needles cast on 44(44-46-48) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 2½ inches. Change to Size 8 needles and start pat as follows: Row 1: P 1(1-2-3), * K 1, P 5 * repeat from * to * twice, K 6, P 5, repeat from * to * twice, then K 1, P 1(1-2-3). Row 2: K 1(1-2-3), * P 1, K 5 *, repeat from * to * twice, P 6, K 5, repeat from * to * twice, then K 1, P 1(1-2-3). Work in cable pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 12th(12th-10th-10th) row 6(6-7-7) times, keeping added sts in pat of K 1, P 5 on right side of work - 56(56-60-62) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 17(17-17-17½) inches or desired length. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 13(13-14-14) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off rem'ing 12(12-14-16) sts.

POCKETS - Make 2: With Size 8 needles cast on 4 sts. Row 1: K. Row 2: Inc 1 st in first st, P across, in­c'ing 1 st in last st. Row 3: K, inc'ing in first and last st. Row 4: Same as Row 2. Row 5: Inc in first st, P 1, twist cable on next 6 sts, P 1, inc in last st. Row 6: Inc in first st, K 2, P 6, K 2, inc in last st. Row 7: Inc in first st, P 3, K 6, P 3, inc in last st. Row 8: Inc in first st, K 4, P 6, K 4, inc in last st. Row 9: Inc in first st, P 5, K 6, P 5, inc in last st. Row 10: Inc in first st, P 1, K 5, P 6, K 5, P 1, inc in last st. Row 11: Inc in first st, P 1, K 1, P 5, twist cable, P 5, K 1, P 1, inc in last st. Continue to inc 1 st each side every row and work cable pat until 17 rows have been completed - 36 sts on needle. Work 1 row, then dec 1 st at beg and end of each row until 4 sts rem. Bind off, do not break yarn. On right side of work, work 1 row of sl st around pocket, sl st in first st, ch 1, turn, then work 1 more row of sl st through front loop of sl st only.

Sew shoulder seams.

NECK BORDER: Sl 10 sts on right front from holder onto Size 8 needle and continue in cable pat until work fits neck edge to center back. Bind off. Work other side the same.

Sew border tog at back of neck, then sew to neck edge. Sew sleeves in place, then sew underarm and sleeve seams. Turn up hem and sew to wrong side.

Sew pockets to front as illustrated. Starting at lower edge of right front, work 1 row of sc around front and neck edges, inc'ing at corners.
