The entire coat is worked in Stockinette St. with Minerva Scotch Sports Yarn on M. M. No. 4 Needles. The horizontal stripes are knit in by * work in dark green for 14 rows, join brown and work 2 rows, pick up dark green and work 14 rows, join light green and work 2 rows. Repeat from * for entire coat. The vertical stripes are slip stitched on after coat is finished. Five of these stripes increase the width of the coat about 1 inch.

COAT: Back—With dark green cast on 132 sts. Working horizontal stripes as indicated, work 4 inches even, decrease 1 st. each side. Decrease 1 st. each side every 3 inches 4 more times, then every inch 14 times (work measures 30 inches). Work 1 inch even, increase 1 st. each side. Increase 1 st. each side every ¾ inch 4 more times. When work measures 35 inches from start, bind off 6 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 9 times. When work measures 8 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 5 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 10 rows. Bind off remaining sts. for back of neck.

Right Front—Cast on 55 sts. Work even for 2 inches, then cast on 51 sts. at front edge. When work measures 4 inches from start, decrease 1 st. at side edge. Decrease 1 st. on this edge every 3 inches 4 times, then every inch 14 times. (Work measures 30 inches). At the same time, when work measures 18 inches from cast on sts. at front edge, working from front edge, work over 11 sts., bind off 6 sts., work over 11 sts., bind off 6 sts., work across row. Next row cast on 6 sts. over each of the sets of bound off sts. Work a set of buttonholes on this edge, every 5½ inches 2 more times.

When work measures 31 inches from start, work­ing increases on front edge and side edge at same time, increase 1 st. at side edge. Increase 1 st. on this edge every ¾ inch 4 more times. On front edge, increase 1 st. (when work measures 30 inches), then increase 1 st. on this edge every 2 inches 6 more times.

At the same time, when work measures 36 inches from start, bind off 5 sts. from underarm side, then decrease 1 st. at this edge every other row 11 times.

When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, on the row after last increase at center edge, working from center edge, work over 12 sts., bind off 34 sts. Working on the last 37 sts., decrease 1 st. at inside edge every other row 7 times. At the same time, when work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 6 sts. from armhole edge every other row 5 times. All sts. have been worked off.

Attach yarn to first 12 sts. Decrease 1 st. at inside edge every other row 7 times. Bind off remaining sts.

Left Front—Work to correspond to Right Front, omitting buttonholes.

Sleeves—With dark green, cast on 60 sts. Work even for 2 inches, then increase 1 st. each side. Increase 1 st. each side every inch 7 times, then every 2 inches 3 times. When work measures 17 inches from start, bind off 5 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st. each side every other row 17 times, then every row 14 times. Work even on remaining 10 sts. for 4 inches, then decrease 1 st. on one edge only every row until all sts. are worked off. On other sleeve, decrease on opposite edge of this tab.

Collar—Cast on 71 sts. Increase 1 st. each side every 3rd row 13 times. Work 2 rows even then decrease 1 st. each side every 3rd row 13 times, bind off.

Sleeve Tabs—Cast on 46 sts. Increasing on one edge only, increase 1 st. every row 7 times. Work a light green stripe, then decrease 1 st. on same edge every row 7 times, bind off.

Striping—Beginning at bottom edge of back, be­tween 14th and 15th sts. from edge, with crochet hook and light green, work in slip st. up back. Then alternating colors, work in slip st. between every 13th and 14th st. across back. Work these stripes up entire back. Work in same manner on all pieces, working first stripe on fronts between 9th and 10th sts. from side edge.

When working vertical stripe starting at wrist work first stripe 4 sts. from edge (5 stripes at wrist).

Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew piece at top of sleeve over shoulder seam. Sew underarm and sleeve seams, turn back facings on fronts, matching buttonholes. Turn up a 2 inch hem around bottom of coat. Turn up a 1 inch hem on sleeves. Sew tabs in place as illustrated.

SCARF: (It is necessary in making this pattern stitch to cast on and work loosely).

Work with 2 strands—1 of Rosewood and 1 of Nomad Brown.

With M. M. No 4½ Needles cast on 61 sts.

Row 1—K. 2, * leave the next st. on the left needle, K. the following st. Pass this st. over the preceding st., then K. the st. left on needle work­ing thru back look of st, Repeat from * across row ending with K. 1.

Row 2—P. 2, * leave the next st. on the left needle, P. the following st. Pass this st. over the preceding st., now P. the st. left on the needle. Repeat from * across row, ending with P. 1.
Repeat these 2 rows for 10 inches, decreasing 1 st. at each end every 3rd row. Work even for 28 inches, then work for 10 inches increasing 1 st. at each end every 3rd row, bind off.

With Rosewood work 2 rows S. C. around entire scarf.

Entire suit is worked in Stockinette St. with Minerva Olympic on M. M. No. 3½ Needles.

JACKET: Right Front—Cast on 46 sts. Work even for 1 inch. Knit 1 row on purl side of work for turn of hem.

At front edge, cast on 4 sts. at the end of every row 4 times, then increase 1 st. at same edge every 4th row 5 times. At the same time, at side edge, decrease 1 st. every inch 4 times, then every ½ inch 4 times.

When work measures 5 inches from start, work pocket by working over 46 sts. from front edge, and put remaining sts. on a st. holder. Working on these 46 sts., decrease 1 st. at pocket edge every row 18 times. Place remaining sts. on a st. holder.

Pick up sts. from first st. holder and, continuing decreases at side edge, cast on 18 sts. at pocket edge and work until work measures 7 inches from start. Place all sts. on one needle and cast on 14 sts. at front edge (for lapel and facing). Next row work over 18 sts., bind off 6 sts., work across row. Next row cast on 6 sts. over bound off sts. Increase, at this edge, 1 st. every other row 17 times, then every 3rd row 31 times.

At the same time, when work measures 7½ inches from start, increase 1 st. at side edge, then in­crease on same edge 1 st. every inch 3 times, then every ½ inch 7 times.

When work measures 15 inches from start, con­tinuing increases at center edge, bind off 7 sts. at side edge once for underarm, then decrease 1 st. at same edge every other row 12 times.

When work measures 3½ inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, work over 86 sts. from armhole edge and place them on a st. holder. Work on remaining sts., continuing increases at front edge. Bind off 3 sts. on other edge once, then 2 sts. every other row 8 times, then decrease 1 st. every other row 4 times. Bind off.

Pick up sts. from st. holder and working even at armhole edge, bind off 7 sts. at other edge, every 4th row 3 times, then bind off 21 sts. Bind off at same edge 3 sts. twice, then 2 sts. once, then de­crease 1 st. every other row 8 times.

At the same time when work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 7 sts. from armhole edge every other row 4 times. All sts. have been worked off.

Pick up the 18 cast on sts. at pocket and work even for 2½ inches.

Left Front—Work to correspond to Right Front omitting buttonhole.

Lower Right Front Facing—Cast on 2 sts. With knit side of work toward you, work even on right side of work and increase as follows on other side. Cast on 4 sts. at the end of every row 4 times, then increase 1 st. every 4th row 5 times. Work even until piece measures 6 inches from start. Bind off.

Work Left Front Facing to correspond.

Sleeves—Cast on 48 sts. Work even for ½ inch. Knit 1 row on the purl side for turn of hem. Work 2 inches and increase 1 st. each side. In­crease 1 st. each side every half inch 6 times, then every inch 11 times. Work 2 inches even (work measures 18½ inches).

Bind off 7 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st. each side every other row 17 times, then every row 11 times. Bind off remaining 14 sts.

Back—Cast on 112 sts. Work even for 1 inch then knit 1 row on the purl side for turn of hem.

Decrease 1 st. each side every inch 4 times, then every half inch 4 times. Work 1 inch even and in­crease 1 st. each side, then increase 1 st. each side every inch 3 times, then every half inch 7 times. Work 1 inch even.

Bind off 7 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 9 times. Work even until work meas­ures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, then bind off 7 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 8 rows. Bind off remaining 30 sts.

Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew underarm seams.

Turn back facing of lapel and sew. Sew hems on fronts, back and sleeves.

Sew under flap of pocket in place. Work 1 row S. C. across outside edge of pocket.

Sew extra facings under curved corners of fronts.

SKIRT: With circular needle cast on 340 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Work even for 6 inches then * K. 2 tog., K. 32. Repeat from * around row. (10 sts. decreased in round.) In each decreasing row there will be 1 less st. between the decreases (K. 2 tog.) than in previous decreasing row. Decrease in this manner every 3 inches 4 times, every 2 inches 3 times, then every inch 6 times. Work 1 inch even (skirt measures 31 inches), bind off. Work beading at top for elastic. Work 2 rows S. C. around bottom.
