Culottes and Jacket:
Dark Navy No. 1613 … 25 Balls

Blouse and Beret:
Dark Navy No. 1613 … 5 Balls
White No. 1600 … 2 Balls
Rubellite No. 1637 … 2 Balls

CULOTTES: The culottes are made in 8 pieces; 2 front center pieces; 2 back center pieces; 2 front side pieces; 2 back side pieces. The culottes are made in the Stockinette St.

Left Front Center Piece—Cast on 63 sts. With knit side of work toward you the left edge of work is the center seam.

While working decreases and increases on the center seam, also work decreases on the opposite edge. On the center seam, work as follows: cast on 7 sts. at the end of every other row 8 times, cast on 5 sts. at the end of every other row 3 times, then cast on 3 sts. 10 times.

Work even on this edge for 1 inch, then decrease 1 st. on this edge every 4th row 40 times. Work ½ inch even, bind off 24 sts. once, then on same edge decrease 1 st. every 3rd row 24 times, then decrease 1 st. every inch 5 times. The decreases on the opposite edge are as follows: decrease 1 st. every ¾ inch 39 times. When work measures 31½ inches from start, bind off.

Right Back Center Piece—Work a piece exact­ly the same as Left Front Center Piece.

Right Front Center Piece—With knit side of work toward you the right edge of work is the center seam. Work increases and decreases as given for Left Front Center Piece.

Left Back Center Piece—Work a piece exactly the same as for Right Front Center Piece.

Left Front Side Piece—With the knit side of work toward you the right edge is the side seam. All increases and decreases are worked on the side seam edge, the opposite edge is worked even.

Cast on 48 sts. Cast on 6 sts. at the end of every other row at side edge 6 times, then decrease 1 st. every ½ inch 60 times, work 1 inch even, bind off.

Right Back Side Piece: Work a piece exactly the same as Left Front Side Piece.

Right Front Side Piece—With knit side of work toward you, the left edge of work is the side seam. Work increases and decreases as given for Left Front Side Piece.

Left Back Side Piece—Work a piece exactly the same as Right Front Side Piece.

Sew seams. Work 2 rows S. C. around bottom edges of culottes. Work beading at top for elastic.

Belt—Ch. 20. Work in S. C. for 30 inches, fasten yarn. Face with belting.

JACKET: Back—Cast on 112 sts. Increase 1 st. each side every ½ inch 12 times, work 2 inches even.

Bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 2  rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 10 times.

When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 8 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 8 rows, bind off remaining 36 sts. for back of neck.

Right Front—Cast on 8 sts. With the knit side of work toward you the left edge is the side seam. Cast on 8 sts. at the end of every other row at side seam 5 times, then 4 sts. once. At the same time, increase 1 st. at center edge every other row 8 times. At side edge, increase 1 st. every ½ inch 12 times, work 2 inches even.

When work measures 3 inches from start, de­crease 1 st. at center edge, then decrease 1 st. on same edge every ¾ inch 17 times. When work measures 9 inches from start, bind off 8 sts. at side edge once for underarm, then decrease 1 st. on same edge every other row 14 times.

When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 8 sts. from armhole edge every other row 4 times. All sts. have been worked off.

Left Front—Work to correspond to Right Front.

Sew shoulder seams, sew underarm seams. Work 3 rows S. C. around all edges of jacket.

BLOUSE: Back—With No. 4 Needles and White Modeen cast on 98 sts. and working in Stockinette St. work 3 rows, then * with Navy work 6 rows, with Rubellite work 2 rows, with White work 4 rows, repeat from * for entire blouse alternating colors accordingly. Work even for 3 inches, increase 1 st. each side. Increase 1 st. each side every inch 5 more times, then every ½ inch 4 times. Work even until work measures 11½ inches from start. Bind off 7 sts. each side for underarm, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 8 times. Work even until armhole meas­ures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm. Bind off 7 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 8 rows for slanting shoulder. Bind off remaining sts. for back of neck.

Front—With White cast on 104 sts. and work same as back until work measures 12 inches from start. Bind off 7 sts. each side for underarm, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 11 times. When work measures 5½ inches from bound off sts. at underarm, work over 37 sts. and place on a stitch holder. Bind off 14 sts.; on remaining 37 sts., decrease 1 st. at neck edge every other row 9 times. When work measures 7 inches straight up from the bound off sts. at underarm, bind off 7 sts. at armhole side 4 times. Pick up sts. from st. holder and work other side to correspond.

Sleeves—With White cast on 76 sts. and working in pattern, work ½ inch then increase 1 st. each side every other row 7 times. Bind off 7 sts. each side then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 14 times, then 1 st. at the beginning and end of every row 17 times. Bind off remaining 14 sts. Sew shoulder seams allowing 2 inches on right shoulder for fastening. Sew underarm and sleeve seams, sew sleeves in place.

With Rubellite work 2 rows S. C. around neck opening and opening on shoulder. Work 2 loops for buttons at opening.

BERET: With No. 2 Steel Crochet Hook and Navy Modeen Ch. 3, join in a ring, 14 D. C. in ring, join with a slip st. to first D. C. Ch. 2 to turn.

Row 1—2 D. C. in each st. around row, join with a slip st., Ch. 2 to turn.

Row 2—1 D. C. in first st., * 2 D. C. in next st., 2 D. C. in next st., 1 D. C. in next St., repeat from * around row, join, Ch. 2 to turn.

Row 3—1 D. C. in first st., * 2 D. C. in next st., 1 D. C. in next st., repeat from * around row, join, Ch. 2 to turn.

Continue in this manner having 1 more st. be­tween the increases in each row until work meas­ures 10½ inches across. Work 1 row even then decrease by skipping every 14th st. around row. Continue decreasing in this manner every row having 1 less st. between the decreases for 9 rows or desired head size. With White Modeen, work even in S. C. for 1 inch. Fasten yarn.

With White Modeen make a chain about 16 inches long and work 1 row D. C. Fasten each end to head band and in center of beret with a pompon of Rubellite Modeen. Slip a circle of wire 10½ inches in diameter inside Beret to hold it in shape.
